The exhibition «The Gold of Switzerland» presents all gold coins of the Swiss Confederation, including all patterns and many great rarities. The spectrum ranges from the first small emission of 1873 designed by Léopold Wiener from Belgium to the current gold coins produced by Swissmint in 2016. Among the exhibits on display are the renowned treasures of Swiss numismatics such as a «Stirnlocken-Vreneli», a striking made of Gondo gold, and a gold strike of the 5 francs commemorative coin from 1948. The unchallenged highlights, however, are the only two specimens in private possession representing the enigmatic 1955 series. Kept in the vaults of the Swiss National Bank, the gold 25 and 50 francs were melted down between 2006 and 2008, with only very few exceptions.
